Booming for Boon

Categories: About Us, Design, Kids @ 10:27:24 am

Grayson and I are just booming for Boon products. You have to buy all this baby stuff, right? So why not get them something stylish and well designed? Boon products are oh so nifty and they are reasonably priced too. Grayson is stylin' in his new Boon Flair high chair. Their feeding products are so cool! I bought them all. I especially love the Squirt baby food dispensing spoon. No need for a bowl! Genius!

Click here to watch Grayson eating green beans for the first time. He loves his Flair high chair. Green beans, not so much.

The Boon line of products can be found at Target.

10% of all Boon's profits are donated to children's charities. Good Boon!

Bright Idea for a Rainy Day

Categories: Design, Bad Design @ 07:50:12 pm

Today, on my way home from the gym, I was pushing Grayson in his stroller and all of a sudden it started raining! Typical New York February weather, right? I stopped and put the weather guard on his Maclaren, then I opened up my umbrella. I held the umbrella in one hand, trying to keep it over my head as I pushed the stroller with the other hand. Did I mention, we live on a slope? I felt so clumsy with the umbrella in one hand and the stroller handle in the other.

When we got home, I read the Daily Candy and voila! The Nubrella was featured! It is an ultra mod, aerodynamic, hands-free umbrella! It has shoulder straps unlike those dorky umbrella hats. It keeps the umbrella over your head and it wont invert when the wind gets a blowin'. Nifty!

Do you think the Nubrella is the "new hotness" or "all wet"?

Babies drool, Play Spot rules!

It is a play mat that is made of interlocking foam tiles. The mod circles are a perfect match for our mid century decor. When you piece them all together, it measures 72 x 54". I made two mats out of the tiles, one for downstairs in the living room and one in his room. Groovy!

Utili-Lavalavas by Fashion Tramp

Categories: Tiki, Fashion @ 10:43:59 am

Fashion Tramp designer Andy Davis is at it again! She is the genius behind the Utili-lavalava. Have you ever been to a tiki party or luau and you have no where in your sarong to keep your keys, wallet, etc.? Andy has your answer!

Utili-lavalavas are Andy's take on the traditional sarongs or lavalavas worn by Polynesians but they are updated with pockets.
Andy says, "It was an idea born from an online conversation with friends on the Fraternal Order of Moai website, Fraternalorderofmoai.org. about the comfort of lavalavas. But where do you put your wallet? A Utili-lavalava was born."

Garanimals on the Loose

Categories: Kids, Fashion @ 10:03:10 am

Watch out, Garanimals are on the loose! What are Garanimals? Do you remember?
Garanimals are a line of children's clothing that originally came out in the early 1970's. They were made by Garan Inc. and each article of clothing featured a hang tag with a particular animal on it. Kids could gain self-confidence by dressing themselves in perfectly coordinated outfits based on matching animals. I never wore Garanimals but I remember my younger brother did. He was born in 1975. I remember going shopping at KMart (or was it Sears?) to pick out Garanimals for him.

Garanimals
are back! The classic kids clothing line has been re-vamped with bright colors and hip designs. You can find them at your local Wally World (I mean Wal Mart).

Happy Superbird Tuesday

Categories: Design, Bad Design @ 10:24:53 am

In honor of Super Tuesday, I thought I would write about one super amazing muscle car, the Plymouth Road Runner Superbird. I bet you didn't know I come from a family of gearheads. Yes I do. My dad and brother are racers. All my life my dad and brother have been buying and restoring hot rods, muscle cars and sports cars. My dad has owned a Corvette for each decade from the 1960's to the present. I wish he still had all those Vettes and so does he. He'd be a rich man.

My dad, brother and I watched hours and hours of the Barrett-Jackson Car Auction on the Speed Channel. They feature the best of the best collector cars out there. One car that caught my eye was the Plymouth Road Runner Superbird. In 1970, Plymouth came out with this badass and bizarre muscle car. It was aerodynamically designed with a smoothed out front nosecone, long sleek body and an enormous rear wing spoiler. It was also equipped with a 426 Hemi engine. My dad and brother say "Hemi's rock! Har Har!". There were only 135 models made which makes this car ultra rare.

This Superbird sold on the Barrett-Jackson auction for $300,000. Wow!

The Plymouth Superbird, is it super cool or super ridiculous? What do you think?

Yo Gabba Gabba

Categories: Kids @ 01:37:39 pm

If you have been wondering what Grayson and I were up to last month, we were watching Yo Gabba Gabba! Yes, my 4 month old son and I are hooked on the Nick Jr. TV show. It's awesome! If you haven't seen it, you must check it out!

The show features the host DJ Lance Rock, a dancing, singing dude who looks like he is an ex-member of the group Deee-Lite. He wears an orange jumpsuit and fuzzy hat and dances like a raver. He carries a big boombox and when it opens, it reveals five toy monsters: Brobee, Foofa, Muno, Plex, and Toodee.

I'm Back

Categories: About Us @ 06:25:54 am

Hi I am back! I am blonde, fifty pounds lighter and feeling like myself again. Grayson Danger and I flew down to Orlando, Fl for "Baby Boot Camp". For the entire month of January I got much needed help from friends and family, plus we got to bask in the warm Florida sunshine. Thank you to everyone for your help, thanks to my kind husband who suggested we go on the trip. Thanks to my baby boy. When you smile at me with your gummy, one-toothed grin, it makes it all worthwhile. Thanks to my Retro Readers for your patience. Sorry no blogs last month but now my batteries are recharged and I am ready to rock... I mean blog.

Photo taken by Kiddie Kandids portrait studio at Babies R Us. We chose the Tiki Beach backdrop, of course!
