One of my favorite artists recently passed away. Charley Harper died Sunday, June 10th, of pneumonia, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was 84.

Harper was best known for the children's book The Golden Book of Biology. Harper had a unique sense of graphic design. His artwork focused on a minimalist, geometric depiction of nature. Other publications he designed for include Ford Times and the Betty Crocker's Dinner for Two Cookbook. He also created graphics for the Audubon Society and the National Park Service.

One of my favorite designers, Todd Oldham is also a huge fan of Charley Harper. His home is loaded with Harper artwork and he recently compiled a massive, definitive book on the artist, Charley Harper: An Illustrated Life.

Check out the book, Beguiled by the Wild for more of Harper's artwork.
