California architect Wayne Donaldson rescued a badly deteriorated Futuro house, a 1960's space age modern flying saucer shaped mobile leisure home, designed by Finnish architect Matti Suuronen. Donaldson's Futuro was serving as a naval recruiting station in San Diego. It was in bad shape, painted red, white and blue. The restoration project took about a year.

2004, he had the 10,000 pound Futuro transported a nerve wracking 150 miles, a 5 hour drive on the back of a double wide trailer from the shores of San Diego to its new California mountain home at Pine Cove, near Idyllwild, above Palm Springs.
Donaldson said, "There are only six Futuros remaining in the United States that I been able to locate, and most are in dire shape. I've visited all but one." He is restoring it to its original pristine condition, shag rug included. He hopes to get the house placed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the only Futuro house in California.
