This weekend we went to the nifty new exhibit at the MoMA in NYC. It is called Home Delivery: Fabricating the Modern Dwelling. It features prefab houses past, present and future. It is worth seeing. The exhibition inside the museum includes models, blueprints, videos, and more. I even saw one of the books we sell featured in their display case. It is called Good Shelter. I liked the mini models of the Eames house and a Buckminster Fuller Dome home.
I also enjoyed walking through a vintage Lustron house. It is a house from the late 40s early 50s that is made entirely of porcelain coated steel. The exterior, interior and built-ins, etc are all made of metal. Wow! It is like living inside a giant filing cabinet. Ha, Ha!
It started raining hard so we didn't get to tour the interiors of the prefab houses that were outside the museum. They looked very mod, I liked the tall one that was made of glass and steel. I could see myself living in one of those. It would be ideal for a beach home.
The exhibition is worth checking out. It is running through Oct 20, 2008.
