We got a super nifty new housewarming gift from our buddy and artist extraordinaire Mr. Bret Kane. It is a series of Space Invaders serigraph prints. He and his robot minions have been busy printing them up in Mr. Kane's Atomic Design Lab.

Bret was kind enough to answer a few questions for my blog.

We would love to know how you got into screen printing

I did some screenprinting back in high school approximately 100 years ago. But really I'm just a huge fan of pop art and have been really excited over the past few years as artists like Banksy, Shepard Fairey and others have brought pop art back to the public attention albeit with their own political spin. My own particular leanings are closer to Warhol in that I have a sychophantic obsession with consumerism and the pop culture that I grew up with.

The problem is that I kept seeing really great pop culture based art in galleries in New York and Los Angeles but it was so unattainable on my budget that I decided to create my own and try and keep it somewhat affordable.

How did you come up with the concept of the space invaders triptych?

I have about 15 designs ready to go but I chose Space Invaders because the iconography has created its own sub culture over the years. From clothing, to key chains and especially with the artist "Invader" whose creations pop up all over the world. http://www.space-invaders.com/ it has really stood the test of time.

What other art designs do you and your robot minions have in store for us?

As I mentioned, I have about 15 designs lined up but the next one is definitely going to be an interpretation of the old "X-Ray Specs" novelty item that was advertised in the back of comic books when I was a kid. After that who knows, I want to see what sort of feedback i get from the people that dig what I'm doing.

Thank you for the super cool Space Invaders Prints. They look great in our hallway. They are the first thing we see when we come home.

Check them out for sale on his website. They come in candy colors like the ones we have or you can get them in classic arcade style.
